Hey Lawrence..Long time - ya i checked ur blog out some time ago and it was down. Im glad that you are up again this time on a different domain

The sun uses a simple sun map texture which is exported via actionscript and attaches itself to the sphere at runtime. Pretty straightforward.

Head to www.flashmagazine.com and you will find the prototype there. I am sure you can build from that quite easily.

Hi! Awesome example. I like the way you've managed to limit the CPU usage, it barely spiked at all there... Very impressive. You planning on releasing the source?

Another thing - is the Sun a mesh, or part of the background?

On a personal note, our blog moved, I know there wasn't any warning but we had a massive dispute with our hosts. In my username.
