The power of the Away3D Engine

by admin on May 8, 2008

This small example was inspired by FlashMagazine’s tutorial on the Away3D engine. 3D is becoming the biggest rave in the flash world and has a bright future…Note that there are limitations on the flash player performance. Click on the image for the popup. Please be patient while it loads! (Too lazy to add a loader right now)

Hi! Awesome example. I like the way you’ve managed to limit the CPU usage, it barely spiked at all there… Very impressive. You planning on releasing the source?

Another thing – is the Sun a mesh, or part of the background?

On a personal note, our blog moved, I know there wasn’t any warning but we had a massive dispute with our hosts. In my username.

Hey Lawrence..Long time – ya i checked ur blog out some time ago and it was down. Im glad that you are up again this time on a different domain

The sun uses a simple sun map texture which is exported via actionscript and attaches itself to the sphere at runtime. Pretty straightforward.

Head to http://www.flashmagazine.com and you will find the prototype there. I am sure you can build from that quite easily.
