Drupal is a popular open source content management platform for PHP developers. Scott Nelson has created two modules to allow Flex and Drupal to talk to each other: the Services module and the AMFPHP module.
A good way to start off with Flex, but definitely not the only option out there for developing on different platforms. Other possible solutions:
